The GWAR Show

Let me just start by saying the GWAR show was morally offensive at times, loud, messy and I couldn't understand a word they sang all night. There was three other bands playing and after the first 'no-name' band played I could not make out one single lyric the rest of the night. Overall that's hoe the show went.

GWAR's whole schtick is that they are aliens from another planet and they are here to destroy eart with their heavy metal music. It is comical and entertaining at times; and it is shocking and offensive at other times. It is very cartoon-y...adult cartoon-y. Here is a PG-rated photo.(sorry if this grosses anyone out)

HOB security staff uses the GWAR shows as an opportunity to initiate the newbies. Because the entire show they come out on stage and play loud metal music but also douse, squirt, and drench the audience with food-colored water. Some red, some green, some blue, some yellow. There were many different ways of delivering the liquids as well. Some I won't detail for you. Because it was just gross.

Back to the initiation. They make the newbies work the barricade. The barricade is right in front of the stage. My back was touching the stage. So you can imagine the fun that the band has with the four security guys. On more than one occasion the back of my head was the target for the guy who does all the dousing. It did not seem as though they were antagonistic though. Just having fun at our expense.

When I got home, I was covered in with all of the various colored liquids. I tried to get a torso picture but I messed up. Here's what my leg's looked like. Check out the sock line on my back leg.

You can imagine what my head, face and arms looked like. Thankfully I had all black on so my clothes didn't get destroyed. My under shirt and other under garments were a crazy tie-dyeish blend of all the colors I mentioned above. Thank goodness it only took one shower to get all of it off. It was one LONG shower though.

The crazy part is, the crowd loved it. Some of them even wore white t-shirts so that after the dousing occurred they had a free souvenir. After GWAR was done all of their faces had this weird zombie-like green tint to them.

Overall it was an experience I won't soon forget.
